Going Down...
Under...
you have been warned!!! extremely long post ahead!!!
i better start making up for lost time... eppsss... i only wrote one entry here last month and afraid i might do the same this month if i dont get off my lazy arse and write something... anywhooo im gonna start with my aussie trip which i just got back from... no i wasnt there on holiday... i wish... was a week long biz trip...
when i first heard that i was going down under, i was pretty much excited as any normal person should be, one week some more! and visiting 3 cities within that time, melbourne-sydney- perth, bargain innit for someone whos never step foot on australian soil :) automatically the mind starts to wander about all the purchases that would be made, all the tourist-ey places that i'd be visiting... but unfortunately it was hard core work the entire time there... early mornings, late nights, no weekends... tsk tsk tsk... and also shops in australia close at a weird time la... 5 in the afternoon... wth... but being paid to do work la, not to go visit2 so cant complain...
to start of with, there are no direct flights to melbourne from brunei airport, so had to take the 'red-eye' (hehehe i love saying that) to brisbane, then took a domestic flight to melbourne... in total it was a 7 hour flight, but despite that... it felt like we lost half the day just on travelling, we only arrived at the hotel 5 in the afternoon despite taking off from brunei airport at 1 in the morning...
stayed in the westin melbourne... westin ahhhh one of my favouritest hotels ever... i lurve lurve lurve the beds... the only way i could describe it (and i keep telling ppl this) that the bed feels like a big giant warm hug... once you had a lie down, its very difficult for you to leave, just want to stay there forever... dont play play ok... just down stairs got Chanel worrr... not that i went in, but it is nice to walk pass the boutique every day and stare at the nice bags and boots they have to offer... they had chanel wellington boots on display!!! i want a pair!!! an excuse to wear wellington boots in the rain!!!
anyways, it was quite unfortunate that the bed here in westin melbourne dont feel the same, or not as i remembered it, it just felt like a normal comfortable hotel bed, i dunno what was different this time compared to the one i stayed in KL... but nevermind lah, its not like im gonna be staying in bed the entire time im there right?
oh and since its nearing summer there, it didnt get dark till bout 8 in the evening, so it kinda gave me a chance to walk around the city and see what they have to offer... i heart ang mo land... it was mid november and the xmas deco was already up
melbourne is quite clean, with wide streets and side walks, quite pleasant really to walk around by yourself there... and they have quite a handful of asians there hor, it felt like i was back in London for a while there, you know coz in London its just full of foreigners hehe and its hard to find someone on the streets thats actually born and breed and in London... but yeaaa... only difference is here, the asians are hawter!!! no joke! its as if all the good looking asians were exported and melbourne is their number 1 customer! well other ppl might argue differently... but i was just happy to be surrounded by gorgeous ppl there... tho actually it kinda made me feel slightly ugly bout myself... not really great for the self esteem really... ohhhh and its just weird seeing them and listening to these ozzie asians talk, with their ozzie accents 'ohhhhhh thats soooo cuuuuuteeee'... some how, how they look and what comes out of their mouth just dont seem to match... i guess thats a lil bit like me hahahahah
i lurved walking around the streets of melbourne (well mostly around the city centre since i dont know the place and i didnt want to wander around to far), eventhough shops were closed by then it did kinda give me a chance to check out the buildings there... i like laaaaa, its just refreshing to be in a city where all the building dont all lookalike... i find the place quite modern really... but others might say that the building is an eye sore coz they lack colour and life...
but look even the university has a funky green entrance... not boring at all laaa... i bet uni life in melbourne is fun la! makes me want to go back and study... wonder if they have any courses related to my line of work there...
i kinda only had the first day free there... but no use really since all i did was roam round the city centre looking at buildings, then it was work work work, spent two nights in melbourne but when i was there, as part of our business meeting, we were brought to a restaurant in China Town called flower drum... they claimed that it was once the BEST CHINESE RESTAURANT in the whole of Australia... i dunno how true lah, but food wasnt that bad and service was great... it was all just seafood so im not a big fan... oh yea speaking of seafood... i had to take my allergy pills when i was there coz its seafood all the way that week... i dont want to be walking into the board room with swollen red eyes... teehee...
anywhooo, funny story... the Flower Drum bah (sorry now pics, formal working lunch bah)... talk about taking a long lunch break... 3 hours ok for us to finish our meal... it was a set meal... so everything was served to us right... after about the 3rd course we were all pretty much full and ready to head back, but the dude who brought us there was like 'that was just the entree'... we laughed and giggled after he made that remark but he wasnt joking... it was a freakin 8 course meal... i mean im all for entertaining your clients dude... but i was just TOO full to even enjoy whatever was served... i mean even the dessert which was just a fruit platter, they could have just served me that for my lunch and i would have been happy.... the portions were ginormous!!!
back to my story... we spent two nights in melbourne... unlike the first day, the rest of the days were spent staring out to the city from the inside of the board room... sometimes literally... we had this meeting which was on the 40+th floor of some building and the board room was at the corner and the view is amazing... you could see the whoooooleeeee city from up there... very nice leh! then it was off to sydney after that...
we didnt spend as much time in sydney like we did in melbourne... just 24 hours in fact, no point unpacking you luggage... and we arrived at our hotel late at night, and as soon as we got there we headed out straight away coz we wouldnt have time to check out the opera house or the sydney harbour bridge the next day... plus we've not had dinner yet so it kinda gave us a excuse to explore the city :)
i think its pwetty with the moon just above the opera house
my camera is pretty shit at taking pictures at night... but i think its nice to look at... as a first timer i mean... im sure after a while it might get a wee bit boring... and i heard that you can climb up the harbour bridge... something i wouldnt mind doing actually, but id leave that to another time...
weather has been great the entire time we were there... i think that that was prolly the best time to visit oz... spring time, just before summer, before it hits 40+ degrees... blah... i mean it was hot and sunny but at the same time breezy so u dont feel the burn i spose... we were fortunate to have great weather the past few days... but when we were gonna take our sydney-perth flight that night, it got delayed due to weather... apparently the airport had to shut down coz of lightning storms... no planes were able to land/take off and as a result all flights were delayed lah...
and bida bah the domestic airport... the kadai all close early... just like the shops outside... there were were stranded at the airport and no place to go to eat or shop... pah! how to help the australian economy if like that?! silly bah!
yatah we only reached out perth hotel at 2 in the morn... and had an early morning lagi tu! so cruel!!! and you know how it is... its not like you automatically fall asleep when you reach the hotel innit... u have to orientate yourself and make yourself familiar with the room before settling down innit! so tidur at 3+ am lah!
but ok lah... coz the next day we got to go on one of these...
teehee... had to take a chartered flight to our next destination u know! an hour's flight north of perth... some kampung called Dongara just to check on some facilities they have there...
we even went on a boat to check it out :)
ohhhh and its so kampung there... they have flies everywhere!!! gali laaa... no use you trying to get rid of them... they'll just keep on coming... and yes for your info i smelled really good aight... i showered that morning... its not the smell they're attracted to... they're just everywhere...
now i know how those kids feel from those documentaries on third world children... :( check me outzzz with my hard hat and googles... MANNNN huh!!! hehehe and i dunno... it just looks as if ive not shaved that morning... but i did... australian water i tell u makes things grow faster than they should... heheheh
and since we were in Dongara... better eat their local delicacy right? apparently that town is the Australian capital of Rock Lobster... i think thats what they call it... turns out when we were there... it was the first day of the Lobster season... since the fisherman there are only allowed to catch these lobsters like 6 months out of the year... for conservation purposes i would imagine, and yea so we got to feast on the Rock Lobster when we were there...
and they dont come any fresher than these... maybe an hour or two before this was cooked... this poor thing was still walking along the seabed maybe... it came straight from the fisherman's boat and onto the chef's pan u know! they was so much hype bout this lobster when we were there... but honestly it just tasted like prawn... a big giant prawn... hahaha
the next day was spose to a rest day for us... since its a sunday... but again no such luck... met with a few more ppl, but this time it wasnt in some board room... we went on a fancy yatch (sp?) and went round swan lake... i even had a go at driving(?) the thing... scary leh, with all the small boats around, scared i might run them over leh...
it was really nice being on the boat, nice view of the city, nice clean water... and i tell you these ppl are filthy rich... they have houses by the lake... just overlooking the water... and these are huge ass houses... huggggeeeeeeeeeeee... they even have garage for their boats... waaaahhhh i wouldnt mind living that life hor...
we spent the longest in perth... and other than the chartered flight, or the boat ride... that city is just not for me... too dead for my liking to be honest... ok lah maybe compared to Brunei it might not be as dead, but at least the shops dont close early in Brunei innit...
funny story bout Perth... i think we kinda met up with 3 different companies when we were there... and the 1st company, we had lunch with them we were brought to this restaurant by the yatch club... a bit poshy woshy lah... i guess they have to be, since members of that club are millionaires and billionaires right... well anywhooo... i guess the seafood there is good... so they brought us to lunch at that restaurant... we ordered the set meal... starters, main course, desert, the usual lah... but service was a bit slow and it was already mid afternoon by the time we got through our mains... we decided to abandon desert and check out the shops, we kinda made a fuss to the restaurant that service was slow and we were gonna leave... and so we left la...
that night we had a dinner meeting with another company... and turns out the dinner was at the same restaurant by the club... we were all just praying that they dont have the same waiters they had that lunch time... coz of course we didnt want this company to know that we met up with another company when we were there... competition bah! but of course as luck would have it... it was the same waiter... what to do... had to act like we've never been to the place lah...
then theres the ang mo going.... 'wahhh we picked this place for dinner coz of the great view'... and then there we were just nodding away... mmmm... fine fair enough! the next night... another company... and surprise surprise... they brought us to dinner to the exact same spot... now its juts not funny... and u know what... same waiter served us!!!! 'WOW BACK AGAIN?!?' had to grin through the whole thing... pah!!! i dunno lah... just not my cup of tea that place, the food is to pretentious... sauteed this laaaa grill this laaa... just gimme my fish and chips and im happy luv! :p
other than that... nothing else to say bout the trip really except maybe... it might have been one of the best biz trip ive been on... minus the no shopping or minimum sight seeing it wasnt bad hor.... definitely have to go back there again... for holiday lah of course... or maybe i could trick the office to send me there again...
see told you its gonna be a long post... making up for lost time bah :p

oh stupid thing happened... my phone died on me when i was in OZ... after the 2nd day i think... yea u heard me... my diamond died on me! i cant do nothing with it... reseting it didnt help... i cant exactly be roaming around some foreign land with no phone can I? had to buy myself some cheap ass phone when i was there... so yeaaa cant access my diamond, so basically my phone contact list was empty... bwaaaa... in a land where EVERYONE is walking about showing off their iPhone & Blackberry i felt quite inadequate with my flimsy nokia flip phone... at least its got a camera... 0.3MP !!!! hahahah
whatever... k ill update soon enough i hope
